Why to go there: They have a great number of exhibits, all
accessible and appropriate for children starting at age 4. The basement permanently features two
sure-fire hits. The first is 1800s
Detroit streets. Barbershop, candy shop,
and cobbler all with replicas. The
second is the train set, which kids can manipulate from controls. They have a working assembly line and the Kid
Rock music lab. It is free. The only cost is parking.
What to do before hand: To go the website and find the new exhibits. Talk to the kids about the history they are
going to experience. It also is
understandable to children.
Be careful: Arrive
early, parking fills up. Plan your
eating (no easily accessible restaurants).
Summary: An annual
“must do” for our family. It is living
history.
